Once a French colony and later deeply scarred by a war that ultimately came to define a generation, Vietnam is healing the scars of its past. It is a jewel for those looking for awe-inspiring landscapes, cultural and artistic masterpieces, and a refined cuisine. Our journey begins in Ho Chi Minh City, where we are introduced to Vietnam’s economic hub. Yet alongside this modernity, tradition is deeply etched in most people’s lives. Spend a day on the Mekong cruising through the intricate network of canals and sharing time with local villagers learning about their life. Fly north to Danang and visit the Cham Museum where superb sculptures bask in air and sunlight as their creators intended. Drive to the old port city of Hoi An, a fascinating blend of cultures from years at the fore of the South East Asian sea trade. Explore the site of My Son, Champa’s religious center whose temples stand silhouetted against the deep green of the mountains. In Hue, spend a day slowly exploring its graceful past and enjoy a private dinner with members of the royal family. Outside the city, take time to bear witness to some of the most important sites of and monuments to the Vietnam War in the former Demilitarized Zone. End our journey In Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital where we visit restored pagodas, wander ancient street markets, and travel through history with an in depth look at the development of Vietnamese art. Return home from Hanoi.
