The Hidden Faces of Armenia and Georgia
October 10, 2012 - October 24, 2012

Located at the crossroads of Europe and the Middle East are the countries of Armenia and Georgia. Discover their refined art, magnificent landscapes and heart-warming hospitality accompanied by long-time Caucasus traveler Dr. Talinn Grigor.

Our journey begins in Armenia where the Matendaran houses one of the world’s largest repositories of ancient manuscripts. Stop at the Khor Virap Monastery where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for practicing Christianity. The views of Mt. Ararat from the church are stunning. En route to Georgia stop at the monastic complex at Haghpat which offers one of the best preserved examples of Armenian church architecture.

Spend four wonderful days exploring Tbilisi, where in its inner courtyards, Azaris rubbed shoulders with Armenians and Kurds traded with Georgians and Turks. Visit the Tbilisi Museum with its superb collection of gold jewelry from the age of Jason and the Argonauts. Head north in the shadows of the majestic Caucasus Mountains to Ananuri, a fortress complex with soaring towers. Explore the easternmost part of Georgia, Kakheti, rich in historic monuments and home to its wine producing area. Return home from Tbilisi.
